On Monday evening Parisian legislators approved the construction of a nudist resort in 2017. The proposed resort will be built in one of two large wooded areas near the outskirts of Paris, either Bois de Vincennes or Bois de Boulogne.

David Belliard, who co-chairs the city council’s ecologist group, noted that naturism is gaining popularity in France, with over 2 million people practicing, and, after the meeting, said that "Paris so far has nowhere" for nudists to express their lifestyle choice.

"France is the world’s top destination for naturists, and every year two million Germans, Dutch, Britons and Belgians come to the country for its nudist beaches," France24 quoted Belliard as saying. "It shouldn’t be impossible to accommodate them in Paris too…We have to find an outdoor space where nudism is allowed, in the city’s parks, forests or on the banks of the Seine."

Currently France has over 100 nude beaches and many holiday camps that appeal to naturists. A single swimming pool in Paris, the Roger Le Gall, allows nude swimming, but only after 9 PM, and there’s a limit of three visits per week. Indecent exposure can bring a fine of 15,000 euros ($16,900) and up to a year in prison.
